The Student Massage Therapy Clinic

In the second, third, and fourth quarters of our program, the students must provide several hours of massage therapy for the general public under supervision. We invite you to receive the benefits of therapeutic massage for a fraction of the price of a professional massage while you support a student's education! All proceeds from our Student Clinic support the Student Scholarship Program. To learn more, read below!

Our Policies

Why a Student Massage?

At Berkana, our students are learning how to become amazing massage therapists, and a big part of their training is to provide massage therapy to the public in our Student Clinic! We invite the public to receive massage therapy from our students in the second, third, and fourth quarter of their 5-month program. The students get a chance to practice their new skills, and our clients are able to receive exceptional bodywork for a fraction of the normal cost of a massage.

What We Offer

We normally offer 60-minute massages throughout the student terms in the Spring and Fall. We also have a very special offering of 90-minute massages at the end of the student's program. All of the student massages are $45.00 per hour. Tips are not accepted or expected, and all proceeds beyond our clinic's operational costs go toward our student scholarship program.

Want to participate?

Just click the “Book a Massage” button! Please know that we don’t ordinarily answer the phone as we are teaching and learning blissful therapeutic massage and don’t want the phone interrupting our focus.  If you decide to book in the Student Clinic, please know we are counting on your participation in the student's education and appreciate your honoring our 24-hour cancellation policy.

Thank you so much for supporting the Berkana Institute of Massage Therapy, where we knead you!

Hours of Operation

The Massage Clinic is open on select weeks, Monday through Thursday evenings, from 4:00 pm until we take our last client at 7:00 pm. Sessions are booked by appointment only. We cannot accommodate walk-ins as we must ensure our student therapists are able to complete their clinical practicum by working in the studio with clients.

Receiving from a Student Therapist

Clients receive exceptional and professional Massage Therapy in the artfully decorated, tranquil mansion, select Monday through Thursday evenings from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The private and peaceful treatment rooms are very inviting.

What to expect from your session:

When you come to the massage studio to receive a massage, you can expect a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable experience. The Berkana Massage Therapy Student Clinic has a very comfortable atmosphere with soothing music. You will take care of all paperwork and payment before coming to the school, so your time with us can be totally stress-free. Your student therapist will greet you in the waiting area and ask you some brief questions about your general health, you will discuss what kind of massage is best suited for your needs. After your intake interview, your student therapist will escort you to the treatment room and you will have privacy so that you may disrobe to your comfort level and get on the massage table. Usually, people will either choose to leave on their undergarments or will completely disrobe. You will be under the sheet and blanket for the entire session and the therapist will keep you properly covered.

In a few moments, the student therapist will return and begin the massage. During the massage, the therapists will only undrape (uncover) the area of the body they are working on, to assure your comfort and privacy. Throughout the massage, they will check in with you to make sure that you’re comfortable and that they are using the appropriate pressure.

When the massage is over, the student therapist will leave the area again so that you may rest for a minute, re-assimilate, and get dressed. There will be a small questionnaire for you to answer in the reception to give your student therapist feedback on a tablet that the Clinic Manager will provide you.  After that, you’ll take on the rest of your evening feeling renewed and refreshed!

We cannot provide massage therapy for clients who are sick, have a fever, are contagious in any way, feel dizzy, are intoxicated in any manner or have certain medical conditions.

If you have any questions about whether or not you are eligible to receive massage in our student clinic, please reach out to the Dean, Jill Berkana, at jill@berkanainstitute.com or call us at 303-377-3111 ext 3 to discuss your concerns.

Please do this at least 24 hours before your appointment.
We would hate to have to turn you away after you made the trip to see us.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do during a massage?
Make yourself comfortable. If the student therapist wants you to adjust your position they will either move you or will tell you what is needed. Many people close their eyes and relax completely; others prefer to talk. It’s your massage, do whatever feels natural to you.

What should I expect afterwards?
Massage can be profoundly relaxing. Give yourself a moment to reorient before slowly getting up. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience an increase in energy that can last for several days. Other results may include pain relief, increased mobility or reduced stress. If you received deep work, you may have some tenderness after you massage.

Isn’t massage a luxury? Can I afford it?
Massage is more than a luxury. It promotes health by relieving stress, reducing muscle tension, increasing circulation, and enhancing your overall energy. If you are concerned about affordability, talk to us about other options.

How frequently should I get a massage?
The more frequently you receive a massage, the more benefits you will notice. We can help you decide the best frequency for your appointments to meet your specific needs. If you feel you are under so much pressure you can’t afford to relax, this may be the time you most need to take time out to strengthen your reserves.

How do I find out more?
You may still have questions, and you are right to be careful. Feel free to call the Berkana Massage Therapy Clinic and we will be happy to discuss your questions before you book an appointment. But in the end, the best answers will come from experiencing a massage first hand.
